Alien Hominid HD Review

Alien Hominid was release just about two years ago on the Gamecube and PS2, but now it has arrived for download on Xbox Live Arcade. After being shot down passing Earth, our main character must try and recover the pieces of his ship in order to get off this rock we call home. A 2-D side-scrolling shooter whose inspiration is clearly derived from such classics as Contra or Metal Slug; Alien Hominid’s artistic style, humor, and all around charm sets itself apart. The hand drawn animations are original and sharp, while still violent enough to show your alien biting off enemies’ heads from above. At 16 stages and some minigames on the side, there is not much length to the game, but that isn’t a problem since the difficulty will have your fingers sore from hitting the continue button so often. Alien Hominid is as tough as it is fun. Since it is such a great pick-up-and-play game like most of the Xbox Live Arcade releases, frustration breaks will give you the patience needed to exact your revenge upon us feeble humans. 800 Microsoft Points ($10) will score you the full game. Give Alien Hominid a chance; you just might remember how entertaining a simple game can be.
