Xbox 360 Text Input Device

The most radical update to Xbox Live this month was the addition of instant message capability. Now, besides voice chat, Live Members can IM other players as well as PC users allowing for a more connected community experience. The problem is that messaging people is a quick and easy way to talk yet inputting individual letters through the controller takes forever. One solution is to get a USB keyboard and plug it into your Xbox 360 but Microsoft has an even better plan. Their Input Device is reminiscent of a cell phone keypad and helps you get your text on son! The Text Input Device will be sold separately and plugs into the base of the controller. I think this is a great idea. It looks like the controller was made for this keypad; it is supposedly lightweight and I cannot really see it getting in the way of gaming. Just slide your hand down to text and bring it back up for some headshots! Price and release date have not been set but since the IM service is up and running, expect Microsoft to release this baby soon. If you own an Xbox 360 you can check out a video of the keypad at work by clicking on the “What’s New” tab in the dashboard.
